How long will the training take and when will I see results?
We help you improve your dog’s behavior over the course of 30-90 days through trusted reward based training techniques. We believe every dog is different. That’s why we build customized, reward-based training plans that start in your home and extend into real-world environments – so your dog can succeed where it matters most.

What’s the best positive‑reinforcement method for my dog?
Our Philosophy: Decisions, Not Dominance
At Sally Said So Professional Dog Training, we believe in an approach to dog training that recognizes and respects the natural intelligence of your dog. Our decision-based training method, endorsed by veterinarians, goes beyond the limitations of reward-based and dominance training. Whether you are looking for expert dog training for your aggressive dog or proactive puppy training in Greenville, our professional dog trainer can guide you and your dog to success.

How Decision-Based Dog Training Works:
- Temporarily Remove Triggers: Focus on in-home training first to eliminate practice of bad behavior and retrain the proper response to triggers.
- Encourage Good Choices: Use reasonable consequences and rewards to teach the correct responses and behaviors.
- Positive Reinforcement: Train your dog to behave well by offering your dog valuable and rewarding resources at the right time.

Why Choose Decision-Based Dog Training?
- Trust and Respect: Reward-based training can fail without treats, while dominance training relies on fear. Decision-based training builds a trusting relationship.
- Natural Intelligence: This method allows your dog to make good choices without the need for bribery or force.
- Customized Approach: Tailored to your dog’s individual needs, ensuring effective and gentle guidance.

Enjoy a Genuine Relationship with Your Dog
Decision-based dog training fosters a happy, respectful bond between you and your dog, allowing for genuine affection and companionship.

How long will training take and what should I expect?
Our training programs take 30-90 days to complete with ongoing support well after your private sessions are completed. Our Trainer on Retainer and Relief Right Now programs offer refresher sessions that can be used as you choose.
What training methods do you use?
We are one of the largest dog training companies in SC that can train your dog without the use of prong collars, e-collars, or other popular aversive tools. We use positive-reinforcement based techniques paired with proper environmental management to tackle all obedience and behavioral needs.
Do you offer in‑home training or board‑and‑train?
We offer in-home dog training that is tailored to meet your personal training goals with your dog. We believe in fixing the problems where you experience them. Training is a blend of behavior modification and environmental management. It benefits your dog to receive both in their home.
Do I need to be involved and how much practice is required at home?
We want to teach you how to live with your dogs – that’s sustainable training. We understand busy schedules so we make training into your time, not the other way around. Training is communication and we teach you how to take advantage of the time you already have with your dog.
How do I stop my dog from pulling on the leash?
Leash skills! We love to teach you how to handle your leash and get your dog to stop pulling you. There are both ends of the leash to consider and we will train both.
What’s the best way to fix barking at the door or at people outside?
Imagine saying one word and your dog stops barking. You can have this level of control of your dog’s reactive behavior by teaching positive, alternative behaviors. We have the best dog trainers that can help you do this!

Shane Gentry – Owner and Founder
Shane Gentry is the owner and founder of Sally Said So. Started locally in North Carolina, he has expanded to help dogs and families throughout Greenville. Shane has been an animal lover and dog enthusiast for as long as he can remember. He is a strong community member and a father with a lifetime of animal training experience, both as a volunteer and professional. Following a career in the construction industry, he realized his dream of becoming an expert in dog behavior and thus, Sally Said So was born.
Shane has completed several intensive certification courses to become an expert dog trainer. These courses were through the notable Animal Behavior College, the largest trainer’s school in the United States, and Canine Trade Group, an exclusive program for private in-home behavioral training. Not only has he trained dogs, but he has even trained a goat and prairie dog! His personal dogs have quite the resume, starring in Twisted Tea commercials and a spot on NBC’s Young Rock TV sitcom.

Our training approach begins with a two-hour meeting with an expert and marks the start of one-on-one training. This may include basic commands like sit, “place,” and leash walking. We travel to your home for this consultation and can offer dog training consultations in Greenville SC and surrounding cities.

What Sets Sally Said So Apart?
We’ve been successfully helping dogs and owners resolve miscommunication and behavioral issues since 2009. We believe there are no bad dogs, just poor communication. We find that one-on-one training at the start of the process works since dogs and owners learn best in low-distraction environments. Once they have the training tools they need, we bring them into the real world. In our premier programs, we commit to your dog for their life to ensure you always have the support you need.
Sally Said So’s mission is to help more dogs by educating dog owners, supporting dog rescue, and empowering veterinary professionals across our state.

Why Private Training First?
Board and train programs may help your dog learn skills, but they are removed from their home environment at a training facility. You need your dog to function at home. With us, you will be part of the process. Your dog truly wants to communicate with you, despite their frustrating behavior. While our programs include work with your dog, we spend plenty of time teaching you the tools you need to communicate with your dog.
We can’t recommend learning about your dog’s behavior enough. Our trainers prioritize the needs of the dog and offer a variety of positive reinforcement techniques, thus strengthening the bond between dog and owner.
If you want the best dog training that involves work with your dog and YOU, call us and let’s discuss your dog’s specific needs.
